Storyboarding is a graphic representation of what story is going to be shown, shot by shot. It is made up of pictures of every scene with notes of what is happening in every scene. Storyboarding is important because it is like the visual map that'll help the directors/producers/designers to work on their final aim and also prevent them from deviating from their original plan.
